fl-isem tal-missier (u tal-iben)
in the name of the father (and of the son)
Fl-Isem tal-Missier (u tal-Iben) is awarded the European Prize for Literature 2011
Despite being a short book, Fl-Isem tal-Missier (u tal-Iben) is a rollercoaster of emotions, moods, styles and personae. Drawing on a war diary
which the author's father (1920-2007) started writing in December 1939, marking his joining the British Army, Mifsud writes a touching account
of his 'delicate' relationship with his father, but also, on the latter's demise, an account of the changes his life went through when his own son was born.
It is safe to comment that this book is a break with the former ouvre. The blend of different styles and genres, ranging from poetry to
prose to poetry to an engagement with Lacan's psychoanalysis, Cixous's, Kristeva's and Bordo's feminism, makes this work unique in Maltese literature so far.
